6 Lifestyle Changes You Can Easily Make Today to Get More Sleep!

yummy food, healing food,

Did you now when you don’t get enough sleep, EVERY single part of your body will suffer in some way!

You cannot be healthy without it! We are naturally wired to sleep at night when the sun goes down & wake as the sun goes up. It’s our circadian rhythm.

So when the sun comes up, our bodies are triggered to produce cortisol which will get you going!

At night, our bodies produce melatonin, the sleep hormone! The 2 have an inverse relationship.

Now knowing that, you can see why your body may be out of whack depending on your sleep/ wake cycle. Even worse is- different times to bed and waking at different times each day!

You can also see how important natural light becomes. Getting that morning sun will make a huge impact on your body & at night, all those down lights will keep the cortisol levels high. Get your home as dark as you can so your melatonin kicks in so you sleep better. Also avoiding screens is ideal as they will cause our body to produce cortisol right before bed.....no wonder why so many have trouble getting to sleep!

I use blue blocking glasses now when working at night because let’s face it, these days sometimes you cant help the night time screen time.

Sleep is so important for our bodies healing processes. It is also a time when your hormones will balance out, your blood sugar lowers & so much more!

Lack of sleep will see you irritable, depressed, increased blood pressure, your memory is affected & there will be increased inflammation in your body!

Lifestyle changes to help you sleep

  1. A nice quiet book or bath to wind down.

  2. Calming essential oils to trigger the brain that it’s time for rest now (I love lavender peace & vetiver at night. There is a whole sleep kit of essential oils that I can offer you).

  3. No late snacking. Try and finish your last bite 2 hours before you plan to sleep.

  4. Get your to do list down on paper & out of your head.

  5. Avoid caffeine after lunch (when you eat healthier, you won’t need those quick afternoon hits anymore)

  6. Get the lights dimmed & turn on amber lights like salt lamps.

All of the above can help but it’s just picking one at a time to start turning these changes into lifestyle changes.

Love to hear which change you would like to make to get more sleep?
